BACKGROUND
Scope: 4 Open-Z style stair towers, totaling 28 stairs and 4 top cross-over landings
Customer: Nitterhouse Concrete Products
General Contractor:  Kinsley Construction
Architect:  HTNB

PROBLEM SOLVED
For the airport parking garage, envisioned with attractive white concrete stairs, an architectural mindset was required to bring this project to life.

The Harrisburg International Airport parking structure is considered a hybrid design because it is a blend of steel and precast concrete.  The precast concrete double tee floor system and Open-Z stairs with integral landings are made of white concrete, which is an aesthetically pleasing deviation from the standard of gray tones. The stairs were offered with a form finish and 3” wide Wooster type 101 Alumogrit nosings on each tread.  Beams and steel tube provided the support for the stairs. Stair towers were enclosed by a curtain wall design.
