Precast Stairs and Landings Build Time and Cost Savings into a Project Upfront

BACKGROUND:
Scope: 32 stairs with integral landings (2 egress towers)
Customer: The Buncher Company – Pittsburgh, PA
Architect: Indovina Associates – Pittsburgh, PA
Erector: Century Steel Erectors
PROBLEM SOLVED:
Castcon worked with Indovina to address the hanger steel support (in lieu of suspension rods as was originally proposed). Integral landings on the stairs reduced the number of pieces to be erected (saving even more money).
TESTIMONIAL:
“The time savings of precast stairs over metal pan stairs can be considerable. Century can install a flight of stairs—approximately 16 risers—in two hours. The biggest advantage with precast stairs is once in place, it is a finished product. Metal pan stairs with similar riser count can take over two man-days and then they still need to be poured with concrete.
“The Hampton Inn project in Pittsburgh, PA contained two separate stair towers. Both towers fit together extremely well. The deliveries from Castcon were on time, on a consistent basis. Castcon’s flexibility in delivery times was a great help to Century in completing the Hampton project on schedule.”
